The Word Alive Release New Single 'Trapped'

Metalcore band The Word Alive has just released a new track entitled ‘Trapped’.

The song is a first look at the Arizona native’s upcoming fourth record, Dark Matter, that’s being released 18 March via Fearless Records.

“If you know what it’s like to feel confined to your vices or someone who is, you’ll feel the intensity of ‘Trapped’,” frontman Telle Smith explained on Facebook.

“Whether your fix is drugs, alcohol, sex or psychological insecurities, we all have something that can hold us back. ‘Trapped’ is about that feeling, and trying to crawl out of the hole that can be our heads.”

The Word Alive will be touring America in support of Dark Matter this coming February along with Fit For a King and Out Came the Wolves.

“Dark Matter is the result of our most in-depth writing and recording session we’ve done, and is something we consider to be our most dynamic and expansive album to date,” Smith stated. “This record completely defines and expresses who we are, and where we are going, taking the listener to the darkest and most honest places our band has dared to venture.”

Review:

The first look at The Word Alive’s new record Dark Matter comes in the form of ‘Trapped’, a heavy hitting track about feeling confined to your own vices. It has a much darker sound than what fans of the band are used to, using a strong drum beat behind hard edged guitar riffs and raw vocals. The echoed soft voiced singing in the beginning can almost be compared to that of Marilyn Manson or Korn, while the chorus kicks in with a powerful Linkin Park vibe. The breakdown involves some crazy effects and reverb for days before coming back to the catchy powerhouse refrain. It’s a massive step up for the band as artists, the power and fullness of the instrumental passages definitely giving it a full arena sound.
