“Rock with bits,” is how vocalist Jack White describes the sound of his band’s debut EP. White, who’s not at all associated with The White Stripes but has a name to live up to, already has a pronounced unique voice at eighteen. He is one part of Southampton-based quartet Elixir, a progressive rock band that’s looking to contemporise classic rock. “We’re going for the older style of music, but with a modern twist towards it,” White clarifies. “It’s the bits that make it unique.”
Elixir is set to release their debut six-track double EP, entitled Black…And White, this coming February with an accompanying release show at their hometown venue, The Joiners. “We wanted to keep the name [of the EP] simple,” states guitarist Laurence Henderson. “Plus, it reflects the music because there’s a lighter and a darker side to the record.”
Having been influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Red Hot Chili Peppers has had an apparent impact on their pre-released single ‘Inside’, an upbeat feel-good track with intricate guitar riffs and an old-school vibe. It’s just a small taste of what Elixir is capable of and an exciting peek into the EP.
