New Band Feature: Elasea

“We all like cats; we are passionate about cats. Also, we like pizza and the pub.” - as the first words that came to the front of bassist Liv Jones mind when describing her band’s hobbies, it’s safe to say the members of Elasea have their priorities straight. “Joking aside,” she continues, “I don't think any of us have any other serious passions we would like to pursue [beside music]!”

While cats and pizza are all well and good, it’s a great thing that the members of Elasea are all passionate about music because it’s clear to see that they have a real knack for it. Jones, alongside vocalist Andy Bradford and guitarist Calum Radmore, put their heart and soul into their alternative rock music. Starting as a cover band in their hometown of Berkshire, UK, Elasea created a reputation for themselves covering tracks in their own style from Icona Pop to Bring Me the Horizon, and more recently Adele.

For fans of Deaf Havana and We Are the Ocean, Elasea’s alternative style comes from their influences such as InMe and Lower Than Atlantis. The bands that the members love at the moment vary very little from their own music. “The new BMTH album we have played to death, we absolutely love it. Same with the most recent Don Broco album & Young Guns album!” Jones comments. “We also think Mallory Knox, Pvris, Fightstar are doing a great job at the moment.”

Elasea’s debut five track EP, Where I Belong was released this past summer. Their strong upbeat melodies mesh with forceful guitars to create a robust rock vibe that attains the same level of ferocity as many of the top acts in their current genre. When describing the band’s musical process Jones explains, “when we are writing, we aren't afraid to test the boundaries of different genres. Some people might view this in a bad light, but we don't want to put ourselves in a box. If we wanna write a heavier track or if we wanna write a pop driven tune, we will.”

Though the EP is still fresh, they are already working on new music in anticipation for their first full-length record. “The material we've just released was classic pop/punk! I think the new demos we're working on are a lot darker, not necessarily heavier though,” Jones details.

While yet unsigned, Elasea has gained much recognition from outlets such as BBC Introducing and YouTuber Brian Stars who posted their track ‘Shallow Waters’ on his page. The band has played numerous gigs and has even supported Funeral For a Friend. Their first single and video off of Where I Belong, ‘Lost in the Dark’, combined with their past videos online have gained hits of over 20,000.

“We want people to listen to our music and feel the same way we feel about our influences when we listen to them,” Jones comments. “I think everyone needs a creative output or creative language, writing music and performing that live is an incredible feeling for each of us.”
