New Band Feature: I Prevail

Any alternative-rock fan is likely to avoid anything associated with Taylor Swift in any way. However, a random click on a hardcore cover of ‘Blank Space’ happened to uncover a rare gem in upcoming post-hardcore outfit I Prevail.

The quintet comes from Rochester Hills, Michigan and consists of vocalists Brian Burkheiser and Eric Vanlerberghe, guitarists Steve Menoian and Jordan Berger, and drummer Lee Runestad. Their online pages were launched just a month ago at the beginning of December, and they are already about to hit 9,000 likes on their Facebook page. They currently have 3,000 followers on Twitter and almost 4,000 on Instagram. Their Facebook page states that their signed status will be announced this year, so it seems that they have a prospective label or two at the moment.

Their debut seven-track EP entitled Heart vs Mind dropped on December 17th and has since hit number one on the iTunes rock charts. The band’s influences include names such as A Day To Remember, Bring Me the Horizon, and We Came As Romans, and their compositions most definitely reflect this. Their album is a melodic combination of both clean and rough vocals, electronic elements, and more than enough heavy breakdowns worthy of a wall-of-death mosh. It includes a good variety of “I hate you” songs, catchy anthems, and an acoustic ballad to rival A Day to Remember’s ‘If It Means A Lot to You’.

Their most recent release is indeed a hardcore cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ for the Punk Goes Pop series. This track has also recently hit number one on the iTunes rock charts, and has just gained the milestone of one million views on YouTube. It’s most definitely gaining recognition and new fans for the band.

Tracks to check out on Heart vs Mind are ‘Love, Lust, and Liars’, ‘The Enemy’, and ‘My Heart I Surrender’.
