Biffy Clyro Working on “Aggressive” New Album
Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro has detailed that they have 20, 80% written, songs for their new album.
In an interview with Q magazine Neil stated, “It’s sounding really rocking at the moment. I think it’s important to put some more rules and limitations on what we do because on the last few records we ran with whatever ideas we had. So on this one, when I say stripped back it’s not going to sound skeletal or anything but perhaps a bit more aggressive. Coming off the back of a double album, it’s important to be really concise so we might only have ten songs.”
Neil confirmed in an interview with Kerrang! that the new album will be “less orchestral” than their last LP Opposites. “It certainly won’t be as expansive or long. It’s liberating to know that we couldn’t have made a more epic record than the one we just did, but we don’t want to repeat that again.”
NME had a discussion with Neil about some of the new songs, and he stated that he has been, “experimenting with beat-boxing, black metal and ‘stoner-reggae’”. “It’s time to start afresh, and some songs we’ve worked on are very different,” Neil specified. “Some songs are dark – they sound like black metal.”
The band has also said that they will be starting to demo some of the new songs this month, before cutting down to the approximate ten songs.
“We’ll see where we’re at, and then we’ll go and record early summer next year,” Neil stated. “There’s a large batch of songs.”
