New Band Feature: AvaGrace
Alternative rock band AvaGrace are making a stir in the UK underground scene and don’t plan on stopping until they reach the top.
The quintet comes from Medway Towns, Kent in Southeast England where the band was founded in 2011. Over the past few years they have shared the stage with names such as Dance Gavin Dance, Mallory Knox, Broadway, and Closure in Moscow.
The band’s very first EP, The Early Sessions, was a free download with three tracks. After putting out that initial work, their official debut EP, Letters To Home, was released last year along with a self directed music video for the track ‘The Diary of Hugh Manatee.’ They are in the process of finishing work on a new EP produced by Oz Craggs of Feed the Rhino.
AvaGrace’s music combines thoughtful lyrics with memorable catches. The vocals of front man Chris Horton are reminiscent of someone like Anthony Green, (Circa Survive, Ex. Saosin) high pitched and commanding of an audience. The sound has a rock feel with a harder edge that slices through with powerful guitar riffs and the occasional rough vocal. When describing AvaGrace, Sound and Motion Magazine stated, “The moment the guitars started crying to each other in the opening 20 seconds, it was smiles all round here. It was so refreshing to have some music that has some bite, some aggression, some dare I say it? Balls. Especially while maintaining a level of maturity, melody and most rare of all, clarity."
The band has had a rocky path over the last couple of years due to member changes, but they now stronger than ever. In a statement on their Tumblr page, the band posted, “We are all best friends, enjoying each others company and making great music that way it truly should be. Our eyes have been opened to a lot of corruption that can go on behind the scenes within the music industry but we have learnt valuable lessons on who to trust and overall it has made us a stronger unit.”
AvaGrace plans to tour constantly to gain a larger fan base. They want to get their name known for when they finally debut their first full-length album sometime next year. They have recently released a lyric video for ‘Upon Reflection,’ the first track revealed from their upcoming EP, Earth, Wind & Liars. They will release another new single called ‘Two Years,’ along with a music video on October 20th.
